My Photo Session With Allison Shumate Photography

I can't recall the first time I was introduced to our new neighbor, Allison Shumate, but I do remember the moment our friendship began.

Like most really fun friendships, ours started with a shot of Jack Daniels. Taken on the sly from a fully stocked open bar that wasn't exactly intended for us to imbibe from at one of our neighbor's houses, I told her, grinning, "You are Trouble. That's your new name."

This is just about as "me" as you can get - dirty soles and all. Surrounded by books, feet propped up.

It turned out that Allison was much more than Trouble. She's one of the most energetic, upbeat, happy, and ambitious people I've ever met. She's also undeniably creative, talented, and funny - and an incredible photographer.

I had been mulling over updating my profile pictures here on The Gleeful Gourmand, and across the board on all the social media sites for a long time. I needed something more professional, but also something that would capture what The Gleeful Gourmand blog was all about. After seeing some work that Allison had done of our friends' family portraits, I knew I had to have her take some head shots.

My kitchen isn't particularly big or pretty, but it's where I have the most fun. That and my back patio after the cookin's done.

Going on only a little information, Allison came over to my house and started setting up shot after shot. She had such great ideas - all of them conveying exactly what I was trying to do, even though I couldn't articulate it to her. We had so much fun that day, and laughed a lot. Later on in the afternoon I went to her house to make the Bread Pudding I recently posted here while she took more pictures. She made it all so easy, and needless to say, I was thrilled with how well the shots turned out.

If you're in the RVA area, and you're looking for someone to take amazing pictures of your family, your newborn baby, your wedding, or even for your blog, you won't find anyone as professional, creative, or fun to work with as Allison Shumate Photography. You can check out her website, and blog here.

One of my favorites from my session with Allison Shumate.

In the spirit of introducing Allison to y'all, I asked her to give me 5 fun fast facts about herself:

1. She's backpacked through Europe.
2. She is a party planner (and I can attest that she's amazing at it!).
3. She loves singing, and great dance parties.
4. She quotes movie lines all the time.
5. She collects lanterns - she has over 30 in her house!

To see more of her work here, take a look at my "About Me" and "Tasty Reading" pages. Then head over to her website to see her full range of expertise. You can also follow her on Facebook and Twitter. I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Turns out she's great at shooting food, too!

Right? You know me! You really know me! And she was able to do that with me just kind of rambling nonsensically about what I was going for. She's amazing - pass it on!

I love the new pictures! Having someone behind the camera you are comfortable with definitely makes for better results. The blog looks fabulous as well!
