Happy Snow Day/Mardi Gras!



Good morning, y'all! We finally have a genuine snow day here in RVA - about 6 inches worth! We're getting fortified with pancakes to head out into the snow for some sledding and snowball fights with the kids. Pancakes are important today of all days because it's Shrove Tuesday, or more commonly known, Mardi Gras! Mardi Gras is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday - the fete of all fetes before 40 days of Lent. In the Anglican Church we typically celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a pancake supper, but in the House of Gleeful Gourmand, we celebrate by reveling in Cajun or Creole flavors instead!

Ahead of the storm yesterday, we made it to the store, and instead of buying the usual milk and bread that Richmonders love to clear the shelves of in the event of snow (for their milk and bread sandwiches?), we stocked up on all the fixin's for Gumbo Ya-Ya, a good crusty baguette, and of course a King's Cake. Oh, and also a side-trip to pick up some more Buffalo Trace bourbon because no snow day or Mardi Gras would be complete without some excellent bourbon.
